On July 10, 2014, we celebrated the groundbreaking of the Alabama Center for the Arts Phase II. Phase II is comprehensively focused on the performing arts including music, drama and audio engineering. On August 22, 2016 the school will open its doors and will be setting the stage for its initial program of classes in the performing arts.
The growth of this dynamic educational institution is a major impetus in achieving our goal of developing an art based economy in the downtown. The school is located at 133 2nd Avenue across from the Princess Theatre Center for the Performing Arts. The Alabama Center for the Arts was created through a partnership between the City of Decatur, Morgan County Alabama, Calhoun Community College, Athens State University, and Decatur Downtown Redevelopment Authority.
